MoU Between Kathmandu University and Rabindra Puri Foundation

Kathmandu University (KU) and Rabindra Puri Foundation for Conservation (R.P. Foundation) have formalized a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) to foster collaboration in the areas of education and heritage conservation. The MoU, signed by Prof. Dr. Manish Pokhrel, Dean of the School of Engineering at KU, and Rabindra Puri, Chairman of R.P. Foundation, outlines key areas of cooperation aimed at promoting academic excellence and heritage conservation.

Under the agreement, KU, established in 1992 under the Kathmandu University Act, will collaborate with the R.P. Foundation, established in 2009, to share resources and facilities. Specifically, the R.P. Foundation will provide infrastructures and facilities for the field activities of KU’s Civil Engineering and Architecture programs. Additionally, both parties will jointly develop and implement a bachelor-level program in Heritage Conservation and Traditional Building Technology.

Furthermore,The MoU is set to remain valid for three years, with provisions for review and termination by mutual consent. Dispute resolution mechanisms, adherence to laws, and confidentiality are also outlined in the agreement.

The collaboration aims to leverage the strengths of both institutions to contribute to the academic and cultural landscape of Nepal. This partnership is a testament to the commitment of both KU and R.P. Foundation to the development of education and heritage conservation in Nepal, providing a solid foundation for future collaborative endeavors.

Kathmandu University and Rabindra Puri Foundation Sign Definitive Agreement for Bachelor in Heritage Conservation

Kathmandu University and the Rabindra Puri Foundation have signed a definitive agreement to launch a Bachelor in Heritage Conservation program. This partnership aims to foster heritage conservation education, combining KU’s academic excellence with RPF’s dedication to preserving Nepalese heritage.

The agreement was signed by Prof. Dr. Manish Pokharel, Dean of the School of Engineering and Mr. Rabindra Puri, representing the RPF. This collaboration will introduce a four-year program starting with an intake of 20 students in 2024. The curriculum will cover coursework, project work, thesis, and research, with an emphasis on practical, on-site learning experiences in heritage-specific locations.

The Steering Committee overseeing the program will include members from both institutions, ensuring high standards and effective implementation. The program aims to develop students’ skills in conserving Nepal’s tangible and intangible heritage, such as architecture, art, music, dance, and agriculture.

Both KU and RPF are committed to providing necessary resources and support to make this program successful, and they will explore scholarship options to make the education accessible to a broader audience. This agreement signifies a significant step toward preserving Nepal’s rich heritage through education and collaboration.
